Leukemia and its treatment

1) What is it actually like to have leukemia? What does it feel like, what does a person go through from the beginning to the time they finally die? What would a person who was *not* going through chemotherapy or modern interventions, experience?

I ask this because most stuff out there that I read, talks from a medical and not experiential perspective. And most of the "what it feels like" discusses sequelae of chemotherapy.

2) In a futuristic society, what type of treatment options might be available? My character is treated in some manner other than the typical chemo/radiation/marrow transplant that is available today. He is cured, the treatment is easily available, and has few obvious side effects.
