Setting: Urban (? It’s see in essentially our world) Fantasy —> there’s magically healing via potions but they’re not super effective I’m mostly using it as a way to avoid writing hospitals every time a character gets injured
Relevant Character: Male, Late 20s in good shape.
The Plot Point: What I need to happen is that one of my main characters (henceforth known as MC) gets injured and then trapped in a small room (actually what’s basically a pocket dimension my characters have been using for storage) for a period of time. The injury is the reason he’s in the room (he went in their voluntarily to avoid slowing the group down) and him being trapped is my action point for the next segment of plot so the two factors are crucial but I’m flexible/trying to figure out the details.
- Injury. This is the trickiest one. I need something serious enough that it makes sense for him to go into the room instead of helping the group and that there’s a pressing need to recover him but not so lift threatening that he’ll die in a short period of time with no help (I need room for the plot that happens in the journey of rescuing him).
General deets: Guns aren’t super common but basically everything else is open (poison, stabbing, falling, etc). MC is only proficient in first AID/very basic field medicine but another member of the group is a fairly expert healer and stabilized/initially treated him.
What I’ve already looked at: Infection timeline. Living with injuries. Trying to look up stories of people stranded after plane/car crashes.
- Hard details on starvation when combined with injury. I’ve go some hard numbers on the increased caloric burden of wound healing but I couldn’t figure out if it’s a he’s starving so his wound won’t heal situation or a he’s starving faster than he would because he’s injured one.
What I’ve already looked at: wound healing and starvation, effects of torture, etc. Found you need 30-40kcals/kg when healing.
- Any other thoughts on the timeline both for being trapped and the recovery would be appreciated!
Lastly; going crazy from solitary isolation and water supply are already taken care of by some magic shenanigans so don’t worry about that.
Thank you so much!
