Disease completely controlled by diet

Time: Present
Where: USA

My MC is a generally healthy male mid-twenties to mid-thirties, fit and very active.
I'm searching for a disease that he self-medicated without knowing, with a high calory diet. He was neglected as a child, so other minor symptoms are Okay but nothing too obvious. He also was not neglected till he was around 5 years old.

I just need a nudge in the right direction
