I'm writing a character who speaks French as a primary language and English as a secondary language, and they have a poor grasp of English. I've already collected a bunch of slang that they can try and literally translate, so that's fun. But I'm also wondering: what other ways might they screw up the language? Are there certain grammar patterns that are common in French and not in English? Phrases that a Frenchman might particularly stumble over? English words that have vastly different connotations in French?
