Becoming a Priest, Confession

You'd think that after thirteen years in Catholic school that I'd know the answer to these questions, or where to find them, but my google skills are failing me. (terms used: when can a new priest hear confession, +seminary +confession, catholic priest seminary, what happens in seminary, +seminary +catholic +confession)

My vague understanding is that the process of becoming a priest is seminary school (4 or 8 years depending on whether or not one has a college degree), then there's a period as a transitional deacon before taking full vows.

My question is when would a priest-to-be start hearing confessions? Would there be 'practice' confessions in the seminary? Would it happen during the transitional period, or can only fully ordained priests hear confessions?

Thanks in advance for the help.
