Setting: Mid-19th century Britain, horror/vampire
Previous Research: PTSD, rape trauma, mental/psychologial effects of miscarriages
Okay, so I’m not really sure where to start with this one so I’ll give you a quick run down of the character.
E is from a fairly wealthy family and is a very quiet, introverted girl. She’s also very physically weak and very sensitive as well as being a little bit sheltered. When she’s twenty, she marries her childhood sweetheart and becomes pregnant by him. Unfortunately, her uncle has been obsessed with her for the good part of seven years and, deciding that he can’t bear to see her with someone else, kidnaps her. As it turns out, he’s also a vampire and he forcibly sires her. This in turn, causes her to miscarry.
For the next year or so, she is completely under his control. At some point- implied to be when he tries to rape her- she completely snaps and kills him. She is quickly arrested by the Night Society (an organisation a bit like the police but run solely by vampires and “enlightened” humans) and because of her mental state, she is placed in an asylum rather than being executed.
This is where it gets a little confusing. I’m not asking for the psychological effects of rape(there’s enough already here for me to have a pretty good idea) but I want to know about what her psychological condition would be like after everything that’s happened to her. It’s very hard to make guesses when part of her ordeal is based around something that doesn’t exist (vampirism) but any ideas? She’s not the main character but it’s one of those issues where I really wouldn’t want to get it wrong.
I’m particularly interested in how you think she might react towards other vampires, her own vampirism and the effects of the miscarriage in this context. Failing that, does anyone have any ideas for search terms?
TL;DR- what would the psychological effects be on someone who is kidnapped, forcibly turned into a vampire by someone she thought she could trust, subsequently miscarries and suffers physical an sexual abuse ending with the murder of the man who did it all.
