Essentially, I need a middle-eastern country that was relatively lax on women's rights during the late 1980s. They need to be part of the U.N. too. It really can be any middle east country. The only problem is, I can't find almost anything on any country's rights during the 80s. I've picked through wikipedia articles, googled every combination I can think of that has the words "Middle east" and "Women" in it. The very most I've been able to find is that women were in slightly more demand during the Iraq-Iran war. But since recent history has been a lot more popular (And every time a country has gotten women's voting rights the last few years it fill up pages and pages of news stories), I really can't find what I'm looking for.
So, here's the situation. The U.N.'s finally revealed the fact Supers exist, along with a policing force for them, in 1988. I don't have anyone from the middle east, and I needed a women. Were there any middle eastern countries (That were part of the U.N.) in 1988 that would have lax enough rules to allow a women that sort of role? I swear I faintly remember learning about some country like that ages ago, but I'd like to know if it's just a pipe dream.
As an added note, I'm not sure how lax Turkey was or if it even counts as Middle Eastern (I should know that shouldn't I?), but I've already got a dignitary from there who dies rather, uh, quickly. So regardless of it's state, I can't have another from there.
Holy crap, I got back from a movie and had like a 20 replies! I wasn't expecting that at all, judging by how hard it was to find information myself. Thanks a lot guys!
