Can anyone provide a snippet of a simple conversation in Japanese that he might overhear on a street by a bus station in Tokyo (and provide a translation)?
2) What do you call it when someone moves to a foreign country and learns the language by picking it up from the native speakers? There's a term for it, but I forget what it is...
Also, if someone was to learn the language [Japanese] in this way from homeless street punks who certainly aren't going to use the most formal language in the country, how much difficulty would they have in understanding 'normal' people, provided that these street punks are usually the only people they talk to?
3) Are waitresses in Japan tipped? What kind of pay do they get?
