Recovery time after collapsing from too much alcohol

Hi there. This is my first time posting in this community and I'm looking for some help with my novel.

It takes place in modern day America and I have a 21-year-old male character. He is about 5'8" and has a somewhat  buff physique but is fairly lean (about 140lbs, maybe?), if that's helpful. He is passing out from too much alcohol consumption and I'm wondering what the recovery time for that would be? He was taken to the emergency room right away and I'm guessing they would pump him stomach? Does anyone know how that process works? And would he need to stay in the hospital overnight? How would he feel afterwards? How long before he went back to "normal"?

I've searched Google and various question/answer sites with little help. I used phrases such as 'recovery time alcohol pass out stomach pump'. If you can help me with any of these questions, I'd really appreciate it!

EDIT: Thanks to all who have responded so far! I appreciate your input. As I've had little experience with alcohol myself, I have to rely on what I've heard from others.

In my story the character's frantic SOBER wife is the one who called 911 after he collapsed on the pavement. What I'm gathering from your comments is that professional medical help is sought only if the person is suspected to have alcohol poisoning. I've looked up the symptoms of this, but I'm still wondering how a person is likely to get alcohol poisoning? Is there a difference between alcohol poisoning and extremely excessive amounts of alcohol? Or is one just the result of the other?
