the workings of the Sicilian Cosa Nostra

Setting and time: Present-day Sicily.

Other searches: Google ("Sicilian Cosa Nostra"; "Cosa Nostra in Sicily"; "workings of the Mafia"; "Sicilian Mafia hierarchy"). I did find some helpful articles, but the vast majority either dealt with the history of the Cosa Nostra, which isn't quite what I'm looking for, or weren't what I would consider 'reliable sources.'

I'm writing a novella set in present-day Sicily that deals with, in short, the life of a member of the Sicilian Cosa Nostra (a "hitman", I suppose, though I'm sure there's a better word for it). I've done basic research regarding the hierarchy of the Cosa Nostra -- for example, the relationship of the consigliere to the capofamiglia, and the various tiers below them -- but what I need to know is this: Where, exactly, would a supposed "hitman" fall in that chain of being? I can't imagine that they're very high ... Also, even assuming (possibly incorrectly) that a hitman would fall lower on the hierarchy than, say, the capofamiglia, would that relationship change if the hitman's mother were married to the younger brother of the capofamiglia?

Thanks in advance, and I hope I didn't inadvertently break any rules!
