How long after breaking your arm can you use a rifle?

Present-day US. Character is a 53-year-old man who breaks his arm pretty badly. I need to know when the earliest he could use his rifle with some degree of accuracy and also the safe estimate, how long a doctor would tell him to wait/heal before he can safely use his gun again. If it matters, he's probably going to wind up using a .270 Winchester. ETA: I seriously misread the source I got ".270 Winchester" from as it turns out that's a kind of cartridge, but, basically, he's using a rifle, one large enough to take down deer, wolves, etc.

I've Googled variations on "using rifle with a broken arm" and "how long to wait to use a gun after breaking an arm," but the results are...cluttered, to say the least.
