whipping/flogging as corporal punishment - how to stage realistically?

I'm working on a story in which one character (Character A) is compelled to physically discipline another (Character B), using some sort of flogger or whip. The characters in question are two able-bodied men in their late twenties / early thirties. They're both physically fit and approximately the same height.

Cut for mild descriptions of violence.Collapse )

ETA: Sorry, I forgot to include the setting. This is science fiction, set in the future on another world. So, in terms of weapons, I'm not limited by what exists currently or what existed in the past.

After a Rape, Investigating Investments, Cool Cars of Tomorrow

Setting:  USA, 2040-ish

Searches:  "rape kit procedure unconscious victim"-esque strings turned up very depressing news stories but no answer to my question, much like "hypovolemic shock rape emergency contraception", etc; no clue how to search for the investment investigation question; and lots of "future classic cars USA -sportscars", etc, searches didn't help me much because I don't know the limits of retrofitting.  Also checked the community tags, which did help with other questions, but had conflicting answers about rape kits.

Cut for sexual violence and goreCollapse )

Mayan Astrology

I need to know anything and everything about Mayan culture, but particularly Mayan Astrology. I'm attempting to brainstorm for a  new fantasy idea/world based off of the culture of Meso-America, and part of the world is going to be based off of the totem animals in Mayan Astrology. So far, I've found one website (http://www.michaelhanscom.com/eclecticism/2005/03/20/mayan-horoscope/) that went into detail about the totem animals, but is now not working for me.

I'd really like both general overviews of the differences between the totem animals and in-depth descriptions of them. In addition, anything else you guys think is relevant. Getting general information on Meso-American tribal cultures isn't going to be so difficult, but I've found that good, accurate, detailed information is hard to find.

Terms I've tried in Google:
Mayan Astrology
Animals of Mayan Astrology
Mayan Zodiac
Animals of Mayan Zodiac
Mayan Totem Animals
Information on Mayan Totem Animals, etc.

I've also looked at the Wikipedia articles on Mayan Astrology, but have yet to look at the articles on Aztec astrology.

Thanks!
