quitting college basketball

I've searched generally, and also poked around the NCAA website for this but haven't found much...

I have a character (18, present day, Connecticut) who is playing basketball at a DI (but not "top" basketball school) college on a full scholarship. If he wanted to not play anymore after his first year, is that possible? How would he go about... umm, quitting? Withdrawing? When in the year would that happen? He may or may not stay at that same school the following fall--it's likely that he would transfer elsewhere, if that's a factor.

Thanks!

Make-up brand?

I'm writing a character who is somewhat well off (think a Daddy's Princess type) and though she hates the people involved in her "world" (the English Upper Classes) she has kept many of their preferences as it's what she grew up with.
I'm wondering what brand of make-up she'd use. I thought MAC or Urban Decay wouldn't be her thing at all. I was thinking perhaps Chanel or Dior? I really have no idea about this kind of thing.

It's set roughly present day (turn of this century at earliest) and she's about 30, and living somewhere in southern England.

Thanks for any help.

EDIT: I have LOTS to be looking into now, thank you so much. Additional suggestions are appreciated. She has friends :p

Exotic wood

I'm doing a short story, and I need an exotic, expensive, rare-but-preferably-recognizable type of wood. In the story, it will have been made into a coffin, but it's actually preferable if it's not a type of wood that's commonly used for that purpose - this is an extremely extravagant thing. It would be nice if it was something recognizably extravagant, but the character's vocabulary is a bit wide anyway so I'm not really too picky on that. (Also, given that I'm blanking on anything, besides mahogany, which is too expected I think, and teakwood, which I'm not sure I want, I'm aware that most people don't know a whole lot about wood types anymore.) I'm thinking it's got to be a hardwood, if it's being made into something that's supposed to last awhile. The coffin was probably made a few hundred years ago, but given the characters' vast resources, whether this would have been obtainable or not outside its natural region is pretty irrelevant.

All I need are a few suggestions - google is being too broad, and giving me woodworking information or lists of every kind of wood in existence or stores that sell flooring, but once I've got some actual names to run with I can find the rest of the little details I need. :) Thanks in advance for any help!
