American Colleges

Excuse any stupidity but I'm English and pretty much all I know about the American Education system is it's nothing like the English one.

For the story I'm writing I have one character in College who's best friend is still in highschool. What I've planned in my head is that Character A (in college) will meet up with Character B (highschool) to do his washing at the laundrette, because it's boring to do it alone. But that's where I get stuck.

Now am I correct in thinking a college in America would be considered a university in England? You have to pay fees to be there and live on campus. (Because college for me is free and you stay at home.)

Secondly, what facilities would be found on the campus? Would the character be able to pop down to the local convineice store before he walked to the laundrette? (In my head I'm seeing this as a cross between my college and a holiday park for some reason.) Would he even be able to walk to the laundrette? Would he have to leave campus and go into some local town?

The story is set in present day Chicago, so if anyone knows anything about colleges in and around that area that would be awesome. However, it's not essential that it's a certain college, I just want to give an accurate impression of American colleges.

I've googled various combinations of "college facilities in the us" "college campus" and taken a few of the tours that came up, though unfortunatly they only informed me of classrooms and dorms and stuff.

Thank you.

Edit: Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure I've got all I need now. Thanks.

Popular Welsh Rugby Teams

Setting: Cardiff, near future
Searches run: tentatively for rugby on wiki, welsh rugby, rugby union, wales national rugby team, but the whole subject is too complex.

I really just need a quick answer. For a Torchwood fic I need the name of a successful Welsh rugby team. Since I know squat about the sport I have no idea how to interpret the info I find. I tried reading the info of some rugby teams, but I can't really tell whether that's good or not and which championship is important. Since Torchwood is set a bit in the future, I need a team that'd be likely to win a big rugby-related championship (which would be called what?) in the near future. Like, not a total surprise winner but a team that's been successful for a while now anyway so it's always down to a couple of teams who's going to be the champion. Actually, I need two teams. Like, give me a plausible scenario. Like "In the X cup, team Y beat team Z by ... whatever the scoring is there".

MIT dorms over Christmas break

I'm trying to find out if the MIT dorms are open over Christmas break, or if students are expected to find other accomodations. I know some dorms shut down over Christmas, and I don't know if MIT is one of the ones that closes or not. Anything you know would be very helpful.

I've tried looking through the MIT websites and I've googled a whole bunch of terms, including "MIT dorms christmas break" and "MIT housing christmas" and so far I'm not finding anything.

Thanks so much!

(I tried tagging this appropriately, but I don't seem to have access, despite the most recent entry...?)

Hi guys.

I'm opening tag use to members, which means that you can now choose the keywords that are relevant to your questions when you post. You can also tag other members' posts.. I'll be going through the tags every once in a while and cleaning up duplicates, typos and the likes.

This will mean that the tags will be a lot less organized, but that's better than how it was: One lazy person was responsible and she didn't do what she was supposed to, meaning that most posts in this community still aren't tagged and the tag feature is somewhat useless. *shifty eyes*

I'm going to rely on you guys to (a) be mature when tagging, and (b) let me know if there's a problem, like a troll going through entires and adding tags that we really don't want.
