Harmful drugs to keep a person ill, but not necessarily kill

I've been a member for a long time, but cut back on my comm-watching a long time ago, so forgive me if I mess up the format. I don't ask often...

Time: Present (about two years ago now, actually)
Place: Alias (TV show) canon-world, Great Britain

Googling things gives me plenty of reports from Falun Dafa prisoners that had similar things done to them, but of course there are no name specifics. Looking through the comm tags doesn't reveal anything, but maybe I didn't hit all the tags I needed to. The alt.suicide.holiday FAQ has only death in mind and I'm not finding what I really need there.

Either way, I need a drug, or combination of drugs, that may cause death in large enough doses but otherwise mimics tuberculosis/chronic pain symptoms. The character is being kept in a crippled state through pills they tell her will help her. Current symptoms are wracking cough, intense internal pain, extreme fatigue, and difficulty walking, but can change if necessary.

The drug/s in question do not have to be street-legal or FDA-approved, either...I just don't want anything with severe physical addiction qualities as the character stops the medication when she takes it to someone for analysis (see why I need names?) and confirms her suspicions that they ARE keeping her sick. Since it's Alias, I can stretch the truth a little bit, as well. If push comes to shove, we can leave the "it could kill you" part out...the continual illness is the important part. Don't worry about recovery, because Rambaldi's helping her...only Alias watchers will get that (and it might explain why I'd like the drugs to be fatal in some way), but yeah, lol.

Any ideas?

Getting Kicked in The Stomach

So I'm writing this story about this kid getting kicked in the stomach, and I don't know how getting kicked in the stomach feels. I've asked my friends, who I thought would know what it feels like, and I've checked Google.

Do you have any sites about it or first-hand knowledge? Ever been kicked in the stomach before and you can tell me what it's like? Also, if you know what it feels like to have a broken nose, that would help.

Fairies and Twins

I'm looking for any references in folklore/fairy tales/myths to twins. More specifically, I'm curious as to whether or not there are any details concerning fairy lore and twins. I've Googled different variations on fairies (fey, fay, etc.) and twins to no avail, which leads me to believe that there are not any connections (and, as I have no proof that there are, this makes a great deal of sense). However, I figured I'd put it up to see what you guys could come up with.

Shedding skin?

I started work on this fanfic a month ago, and set it aside when this hurdle struck me...but now, now there is a hope that the hurdle is gone:

Does anyone know what it looks like when a snake or lizard (or croc or turtle) sheds it's skin? Reptile books give very broad overviews of the entire process, but not enough information* to help.

* = ie, how long does it take for the eyes to become milky? do the limbs become less mobile? and so on.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
