Hello. I've looked all over Google, and still haven't found what I am looking for.
I am looking for information or even a starting point of where to go on the Carpathian Race. I know that they are a sort of vampiric race, but not much else than that.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
At the beginning of my story my fifteen-year-old protagonist moves to North Carolina after living in Las Vegas for virtually his entire life (his father alternating between professional gambling and dealing in some of the casinos on the Strip).
I need a local's view of the city. Googling has turned up a lot of hints for tourists, but I need to know what the kids who are there year-round do for fun (you can only see the Blue Man Group so many times, after all). Restaurants, hang-outs, clubs under-age kids might sneak into, all of that would be appreciated. What sports and teams are big there would also be appreciated.
I'm writing a second installment of my novel, and figured that maybe someone could answer this question for me... this isn't an important plot point or anything, and can simply be eliminated if it makes no sense at all. My area of expertise lies in American/Canadian culture, and I just realized I was writing a European character's experience as if he was in AmeriCanadia. Sadly, Googling brings up a lot of stuff in Swedish, which looks about as decipherable to me as a three-year-old's scribbles.
Main character is speaking with two school friends, one of whom happens to be Swedish and spent the summer in Sweden/Britain (his established history is ambiguous enough that he could be with family in either country, and I never established whether he's ethnic Swedish in Britain or an actual Swedish citizen). Swedish friend mentions he had a summer job. Due to Swedish friend's particular skills, a job as a lifeguard (at a community pool, for example) would be ideal.
Do Sweden and/or Britain have the same concept of "summer jobs" as American students do? Would lifeguarding be a possible? Are community pools common enough in urban/suburban areas to make this a possibility? What age would a lifeguard working during the summer have to be?
EDIT: Thanks for the quick response. ^^ Looks like I'll either place him in Britain or just eliminate the line of dialogue altogether.
Ok, it's not hard to find Hungarian surames, but I'm looking for a sleazy sounding one? Or one that has a sleazy sound to a Hungarian. Does such a thing even exist?
In case anyone is interested, this is for a very silly comic project about an intergalactic porn industry. Yes, weird. The name is for the director, a shining star of the industry. His first name is Rocco, but I wanted a Hungarian surname because Budapest is one of the porn capitals of the world. So, I wanted to have an obscure little joke in there.
