Immigrants in 1940s England

I'm trying to find information on what other cultures besides England would have been living in England in the 1940s. Ideally, Chinese or Japanese, but definately a focus on the Asian cultures as opposed to the Caucasian.

How welcome would they be? The job situation? Areas they'd be found in, like more likely in London or a smaller town.

Even suggestions on terms I could use in Google searches, because what I've tried so far hasn't been all that helpful.

Thanks!

Lettter Addressing in 1950

How should a young English gentleman in about 1950 address a letter to the daughter of a couple of his friends informing her that he is an executor of their will?

The young gentleman in question is about 28, and the young lady about 21.
