1939 Germany

I'm starting to write a story that takes place in Germany in 1939. I know the history of the region, and the events that followed, but haven't had much luck finding a basic description of what everyday life was like then.

A little more info: A non-Jewish German couple. The man owns a bookstore, and the woman is a painter (portraits mainly). The woman is disabled and uses a wheelchair.

Thanks for any help!

ETA: More info. They are anti-Nazi, have Jewish friends, and live near Berlin (I don't know the geographical area of Germany yet, and so can't be specific). The story will tell about the sterilization and euthanasia of the disabled.

burning blood?

Quick, reaaaally odd question. My friend is writing for NaNoWriMo (I screwed something up there didnt I) and needed to know ...

Does burning human blood smell?

Remember, her, not me. Oh ho ho ho. X3 Thank you. ♥

Police procedure/sentencing for vandalism

I have a character who took out some aggression on a vending machine outside a gas station in the NYC area. There is visible damage to the machine and plenty of witnesses. The gas station employees call the cops.

1) Would this be considered vandalism? If not, what specifically is the crime?
2) Would he be taken to the station? He does have a record.
3) What would happen to him at the station? Where would he be put? Would he be able to communicate with other people being held? How long would he be there?
4) What would be the sentencing? A fine? Jail time? How much/long?

Thanks so much!
