Surviving being shot in the chest

Place: fantasy universe (any real world equivilent not determined yet)

Timeframe: Equivilent of the 17/18th century.

Googled: pellets to the chest, flintlock pistol wounds, flntlock pistol chest wounds, bullets to the chest, shot in the chest (most of what I found relating to flintlocks involved larping rules).

Is there anyway I can have my character shot in the chest with a standard flintlock pistol and have her survive? Her access to medical care isn't particularly good even for the age, but it can be abruptly improved by dint of plot, and as far as her own natural healing abilities go she's fairly young but isn't in particularly good health.

Thanks in advance and sorry if I've missed anything important out.

Edit: Just to clarify, the exact area of the chest she could get shot in is currently undetermined and can easily be moved to another part of the body (although considering she's on a horse, the chest might be the easiest target).

Edit 2: Thanks all. From the sounds of things the actual getting shot part is easily survivable provided I don't hit anything vital or from too close a range. The subsequent infection is something I'll consider further when I decide just how likely it is the wound might have been kept reasonably clean.
