I've googled a variety of combinations with the words: death, suicide, time, delay, legal, funeral, organ donor, small town
The character commits suicide in a small town in North America. He hangs himself, if that makes any difference. I know that a suicide, murder, etc, will take longer as far as the body getting back to the family. I was wondering if it would be at all plausible for the family to be able to have the funeral a week from his death if the area is more of a small town, meaning it wouldn't be super busy and perhaps there'd be less need for the investigation of foul play.
Also, if the character's organs were donated, how much more time would that tack on between the point of his death and the funeral? Would they be able to do everything (autopsy if they'd even do one in a hanging suicide, etc) in the town itself? I'm assuming so, but I wanted to be sure I wasn't overlooking any legalities. The town is small, but not to the point where they'd have no proper health facilities. Probably around 4000-5000 people.
Thank you to anyone who can help!
