Context: for reasons that don't need exploring at this juncture, Character X, a forensic pathologist, has been summoned up to a very very small town in rural New England in order to perform the autopsy on the latest in a series of deaths. As the convenient medical facilities are somewhere between subpar and nonexistent, she's been reduced to doing so in the basement of the local funeral home (and is deeply put out by the fact).
Due to the POV of the scene, I'm going to be able to fudge most of the details of the actual procedure (Character Y, the narrator, arrives on-site just as X is wrapping up), but I'm having a hard time grasping the details of the setting. I know it's a long shot, but this is the Internets; does anyone have any knowledge or personal experience of funeral home prep areas, the layout of same, and the equipment contained therein? (Weird and gruesome details gratefully accepted.)
