Japan: School age

I know that to start elementary school in Japan you need to be 6 already. I also know school generally start around April 1st (it can be postponed if it's an holiday day).
Ergo who's born in January/March can start going to school during the year of his 6th birthday while who's born in April/December must wait a year.
My question is: when exactly you've to be born to be still allowed to go to school during your 6th birthday's year? March 30? April 1st? Or it changes according to the beginning of the school during that year?

Sorry if I hadn't been very clear... English isn't my language... -_-;
