Book signing procedure by well know writer

I've googled: writer's duties, author's duties, book signing procedure, book signing process and similar.

The story is set in modern day Japan.

I've never attended a book signing, so I'm not sure what's allowed and what's not, so it should be easily answered by those who attended it.

1. If the writer needs to make a call from his cell-phone, would he be allowed to do that while signing the books at the same time (the writer doesn't mind the contents of the phone conversation to be overheard)? Or would that be considered as a rude gesture towards the fans and the writer would absolutely need to take a short break to make a call?

2. When the writer takes breaks, how long do they last?
