Botched Abortion

I've done google searches for "abortion"/"botched abortion"/"failed abortion"/"bleeding from abortion" and mostly what I'm getting is a ton of rhetoric infused stuff that isn't really very helpful to my purpose.

The scenario: Character A seeks out to terminate her pregnancy from Character B. Character B is a nurse, and not a doctor. But, Character A has no other means of getting another medical professional - no matter how unqualified - to perform the procedure. Character B is also not equipped to handle emergencies, just has the basic equipment needed to perform the procedure, hoping nothing else goes wrong.

My question is: What would have to go wrong with the procedure in order for Character A to rapidly bleed out and die? How long would it take Character A to die, approximately?

Or, if the question can't be answered directly, then is there a resource that discusses abortion in terms that are not biased in terms of the abortion debate? That seems to be the only kind of stuff I can find.

Thanks for you help!

E.T.A.: Thanks for your help. You've provided me with a ton of brilliant information that is helpful.
