My story is set in a deliberately foggy historical period, between the late 1700s and the early 1800s. (If it helps, my story is horror/fantasy, which lets me get away with a little bit of anachronism!) The character in question is a European Jew who grew up in what we'd now call a Jewish ghetto, and thus he never saw an uncircumsized adult penis before he immigrated to Upper Canada (modern-day Ontario) and had an illicit homosexual affair there. How would he react to seeing a foreskin for the first time in his life? Would he be repelled or attracted? He has turned his back on his religion, so would he feel a bit ashamed that he'd been cut as an infant? Would he consider his uncircumsized lover "unclean", even though he's no longer religiously Jewish and doesn't keep Kosher?
N.B.: While I do have strong feelings on the subject, I really don't want this to turn into a pro/anti-circ debate. Thanks. :)
