Medical problems/prescription pills.

Alright, so I'm writing a story which takes place in present day San Fransisco. Condensedly, a man's wife dies and he ends up overdosing on her pills (he doesn't die, though).

So my question is this -- what are some relatively common, non-life-threatening medical conditions that could be easily controlled by pills? I've tried searching and asking around, but all I've gotten so far was depression medication and anti-psychotics, and that's not really what I'm looking for. I was thinking of something that was more of a bodily problem. This person was most definately not depressed or psychotic.
