Kami (Japanese gods) in traditional art

Here's an interesting question, and I'm not even sure how to begin to look for an answer:

How are kami (Japanese gods) portrayed visually in art (including sculpture, paintings, whatever, as long as it includes visual depictions of kami)?

What hair styles do they normally wear? What sort of clothing? Are there any sorts of weapons they normally are seen with? Any other accessories?

Or for that matter, how are their appearances described in traditional Japanese literature?

Thanks in advance!
