Media coverage of law procedures

I have a character that has committed a crime. The prosecutor decides to allow a grand jury to decide whether or not to charge him with the crime on the basis of the evidence. I am basing this on the research game I played to find out the method of charging anyone for a crime:

My question is because my character is a public figure, how much of the procedings will be available to the media. How would they find out and how would they be able to get more information?

Thank you.

EDIT: The crime is Shaken Baby Syndrome and it is the hearing to determine whether or not to charge him, not the actual criminal trial. It would be in the US and somewhere in the southeast in a someone smallish town.
