Post-disaster power and water service in the US

I've been looking for information on how long US power stations and water treatment facilities could continue to function following a disaster that prevented much or all of the population from going to work but left all equipment intact. Would there be significant variation depending on where in the country the facilities were/what sort of fuel they used? I would imagine a person living in an area reliant on nuclear power may experience a different pattern of disruption than a person whose community relies on natural gas, etc., but I haven't been able to track down specifics.

Any information about how long it would take for the lights to go out and the toilets to stop flushing in different parts of the country would be much appreciated. Thanks!
